The story
Toronto snapped its three-game losing streak with a 3–1 win over San Jose. Mason Marchment gave the Sharks a first-period lead, but Auston Matthews tied it on the power play with 12 seconds left in the second. Gavin McKenna scored the winner at 4:56 of the third, pulling the puck into the slot and beating Yaroslav Askarov for his first NHL power-play goal. Nick Paul added an empty-netter.
Matthews finished with a goal and two assists for his 64th career three-point game, one behind Mats Sundin for third-most in franchise history. Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves for his first home win as a Maple Leaf. Toronto’s NHL-leading penalty kill went 4-for-4. McKenna has six points through 10 games, making him the second Toronto player age 18 or younger in the modern era to reach that mark.
